From the stash - Yarn, material, knitting, sewing

I fantasize about creating wonderful things with the rather large amount of materials I have kept over the years.

This is just a few of the kinds of fabric I have stashed away.  They are usually from old, vintage garments.   Often from clothes that I or my family have worn.  They are not just beautiful in their own right but they hold memories.   When I spread them out I can see and hear the kids running around and I remember that whole time of my life.

  • Mambo - definately one of my all time faves.  Large collection of these, but I have not been able to cut them up at all.  They seem to have more value just as they are, whole.

  • Indonesian ikat - From my holidays to Bali, I used to scour the markets and shops around Ubud looking for those special pieces.  I am attracted to the older fabrics, from Flores, Sumba etc.  Some of these I purchased already made up into "tourist" garments, which we indeed did wear, but no longer do.  Some I purchased  in their original form, a sarong or wrap of some sort.  In any case I have not parted with any of it.

  • JImmy Pike prints on anything - These really do have the WOW factor.  Color and design extraordinare!  When I do start to put all these together I will probably want to begin with these just because they are so very very beautiful.  Again from old shirts and skirts.
